Allen Takes First!
Friday, June 11, 2010, Franklin, TN - Our own Christopher Allen's short story Red Toy Soldier won First Prize in The Smoking Poet’s Third Annual Short Story Contest. His touching portrayal of misplaced love is well worth the read and the prize. Congratulations, Chris.
Flood of Epic Proportion
Saturday, May 8, 2010, Franklin, TN - Hadn't heard about it? You're not alone. We're still getting calls a week after by friends and family who only heard it on the news a week late. See Why the Media Ignored the Nashville Flood and We Are Nashville for some interesting insight.
It started as just a rainy day. Heavy rains made attending just about anything in Middle Tennessee a challenge. Even the FRC luncheon was affected, but spirits were high. Over the next two days, Franklin, TN and surrounding communities in numerous counties experienced a regional flood surpassing all accounts in recorded history for this area. CWW members and families are affected, but it hasn't stopped them from reaching out to help one another. We will shine again. The volunteer spirit is alive and well. It has blossomed in the hearts of new citizens who aren't native to Tennessee. This is a special place!
Susie Dunham Recognized
Tuesday, May 4, 2010, Franklin, TN - CWW member Susie Dunham and her husband Terry were recognized for their endless community service assisting flood victims in and around Williamson County, TN. Susie and Terry are just two examples of the treasures to be found in our fair county and CWW. Susie and Terry have been recognized in local papers and on member Kathy Rhodes' blog, First Draft.
CWW Honored by Williamson County Family Resource Center
Saturday, May 1, 2010, Franklin, TN - The 2010 Family Resource Center (FRC) Writing Contest attracts area students from Kindergarten through twelfth grade. The Young Author's Luncheon held May 1 celebrated this year's winning compositions. CWW has been a sponsor of past contests and members have regularly participated as contest judges. This year, CWW was surprised as Director Priscilla Bright presented the Council with an award "In honor of your outstanding sponsorship to the Family Resource Center's annual writing contest." President Dave Stewart humbly accepted. CWW is proud to be associated with the FRC and to participate in the annual contest encouraging youth to write. Encourage your child to participate in 2011!
CWW at Main Street Festival
Saturday, Apr. 24, 2010, Franklin, TN - It was a dark and stormy day. CWW participated in the 2010 Main Street Festival only to be chased off by heavy storms on Saturday and return on Sunday afternoon. Sunday was sunny with wind that threatened to blow us down, but it couldn't dampen the spirits of festival attendees. It was a fabulous crowd with people walking for nearly a mile to get in due to crowded parking. Will we be there next year? Be there and find out!
